Psychoanalysis

Psychoanalysis was founded by Sigmund Freud in Vienna. It was developed to explore the unconscious part of psychic life, that is, the part of our psyche that is closed to our consciousness. These unconscious processes have a big and important influence on our thinking, experiencing and behavior and can cause psychological as well as physical symptoms.

The goal of psychoanalysis is to make these unconscious processes aware and thus to heal restrictions in experience and action. Unconscious origins are made conscious step by step and new insights into your own behavior help to reduce and eliminate the symptoms. The technique of free association is the most important tool. Here you are invited to share any thought that seems so unimportant that arises during the session, in order to slowly decipher the unconscious connections behind it.

Classically, psychoanalysis takes place lying down three to four times a week. This high frequency and the relatively long duration of treatment results on the one hand from the demanding therapeutic goal and on the other hand from the careful handling of any kind of resistance to changes with which one is confronted in psychotherapy.

Psychoanalytic oriented psychotherapy

Psychoanalytically oriented psychotherapy is an independent psychotherapy process that has developed from the classic psychoanalysis. Here the therapy takes place once or twice a week while sitting down face to face.

A therapy that takes place once a week is called short therapy because it is particularly suitable if the problem can be narrowed down to a certain area and you work intensively on it. For example, this can involve changes in professional or private life. Individual solutions are worked on together.

Crisis intervention

An acute crisis means being in a particularly difficult situation. Situations where a decision has to be made that mark a certain turning in life point are typically associated in this regard. If such a situation worsens and feelings of hopelessness and threat spread, a crisis intervention can have a supportive effect and counteract or prevent a possible escalation. Crisis intervention is a temporary support in the form of telephone or personal advice.
